Description*
This course introduces AI through the design and building of intelligent agents. It includes information on the introduction and development of Common Lisp. Students are also exposed to cutting-edge theorem proving-based approaches to AI, as well as certain "hot" research areas (e.g., diagrammatic reasoning and analog chaotic neural nets). A number of applications are covered, including the driving/automotive domain.

Prerequisites
Some previous programming experience and a degree of mathematical maturity is suggested.
*This is a four-credit hour course, both class time and tuition are based on four credits.

Textbooks
Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach, Russell and Norvig, Prentice Hall.
Common Lisp: An Interactive Approach, Shapiro, S., W.H. Freeman, Computer Science Press

Computing
Students need Internet access to the World Wide Web (using a frames capable browser, preferably Netscape 4.0 or higher) as well as access to Lisp. Lisp access is available through telnet on the Rensselaer Computing System (all students can get RCS accounts) or students can acquire their own PC version of Lisp (purchase information to be announced in class). Course material will be available via the World Wide Web.
